All About Aging

Senior Services offers a variety of presentations for the community on a variety of topics that can be tailored to your group’s needs. Presentations are generally 30-60 minutes in length and are offered at no cost.

Community Outreach
All about Senior Services Programs 45 – 60 minutes plus Q/A Community groups, older adults, and those who care for them Find out more about the programs, services and referrals provided by Senior Services to promote the emotional, social and physical well-being of older adults and those who care for them. This presentation will give an overview of core programs at Senior Services and cover preliminary eligibility criteria for services. Also, Community Outreach is available to do community resource events, and health fairs with program materials.
The Big Picture
A New Vision for Aging 30 minutes plus time for questions and interaction Consumers, community groups, planners, businesses Business as usual with respect to serving older adults is no longer possible when they are 25% of the population! What is a new vision of aging that makes it possible to grow old comfortably in this community? What will we be called upon to do?
Understanding the Aging Network 30 minutes plus time for questions and interaction Consumers & Community Groups There is a complex network of federal, state, and local funding and programs. This presentation demystifies that network and explains its virtues and limitations.
Maximizing Choice
Long Term Care Options 30 minutes plus time for questions and interaction Older Adults and family members Explore options such as Adult Family Home, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing Facilities.
Navigating the Subsidized Housing Maze 30 minutes plus time for questions and interaction Older adults, family members and Aging Network Professionals This presentation lays out subsidized and affordable housing options available to older adults and people with disabilities.
Remaining Independent in your home 30 minutes plus time for questions and interaction Older adults, family members and Aging Network Professionals Find resources to age in place and maintain independence
Stretching Your $ 30 minutes plus time for questions and interaction Adults 65 and older Information and resources on variety of discounts available including car insurance, utilities, Medicaid assistance, and how to apply for them.
Drug Education for Older Adults  1 hour  Older Adults Information and resources for working with pharmacist and doctor. Also tips for managing your medication and includes information on discounts and other assistance programs.
Caring for One Another
Caring for Older Adults 30 minutes plus time for questions and interaction Adult children caring for aging parents Discussion on joys and challenges facing caregivers, and information and support resources available in the community.
Gateway 30 minutes plus time for questions and interaction Community businesses and organizations that interact with older adults Learn to indentify signs of elder abuse and how to make referrals to I&A to get isolated clients connected to resources and assess potential crisis situations.
HEALTH
Getting Ready for Medicare / Medicare 101 1.5 hours Working age adults close to retirement What is Medicare? What can it do for you? What does it cover? How can you supplement it? Learn the answers to these questions and more!
Medicare Part D 1.5 hours Older adults Learn about Medicare Part D, who is eligible, and the options available to consumers.
Health Care Coverage - Understanding your options 1.5 hours Adults under 65 and not on Medicare Not eligible for Medicare? Explore other heatlh care coverage options.
Positive Choices for Healthy Aging 1 hour Older adults and aging network professionals Many changes accompany the aging process. Learn how to make the ride smoother by making good lifestyle choices.
